Thomas L. Hesselink MD
Combining a passion for all thing biochemical with a drive to help patients get the most out of medicine, Dr. Hesselink is a valued team member and Medical Director.
Dr. Hesselink received his B.A. in biochemistry from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and went on to attend the University of Illinois. He did his family practice residency program in Flint, Michigan. From 1978 to 1981 he provided nutritional and preventive services in Zion, Illinois. There he met other integrative practitioners, who introduced him to a wider variety of alternatives. These include: intravenous chelation therapy, alternative cancer therapies, clinical ecology, and Koch’s therapy.
He is is a regular speaker at the International Oxidative Medical Association (IOMA) and American College for the Advancement of Medicine (ACAM) conferences and workshops. These organizations review: hyperbaric oxygenation, ultraviolet hemoirradiation, ozone, antioxidants, oxidative catalysts, hydrogen peroxide, megadose ascorbate, chlorine dioxide, sodium chlorite, iodine and related therapies. His focus, as a speaker, is on the explanations of the biochemistry of oxidative medicine and the appropriate application of antioxidants.
Rebecca Ayre AGNP-C, BSN
Rebecca Ayre AGNP-C BSN obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2013 through Loyola University’s ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program. She began work at Contemporary Medicine in November 2005, and enjoyed several years of being able to work closely with her father, Steven G. Ayre MD. She completed her bachelor’s degree in English and History at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois in 2001. After teaching at various grade levels from 2001- 2004, she returned to university at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville to complete Secondary Education Certification in Language Arts and History while serving as Director of Strawberry Hill Academy Daycare in St. Louis, MO. She is a member of the following organizations and has completed continuing education in the following:

Currently residing in Chicago, she enjoys quilting, stained glass, and caring for plants. She is slated to complete her Master’s of Science in Nursing through Loyola University’s Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with Oncology Specialty in Summer of 2021.
Michael Robinson, ND, MS, CNS
Ms. Hanafi joined the Contemporary Medicine Team in September 2005. She is a certified phlebotomist, having completed certification at the Career Academy in Chicago, Illinois. She then served for eight years as a cardiac technician and Practice Manager at Darien Medical.
In addition to acting as Medical Assistant and Billing Specialist at Contemporary Medicine, Ms. Hanafi also teaches phlebotomy technician certification courses and an EKG class at an area training school.
She resides in Westmont with her three children.
